3G clubs Maidstone United, Sutton United and Bromley occupy National League play-off places

Calls for 3G pitches to be allowed in the Football League will intensify if Maidstone, Sutton and Bromley maintain their early-season form.

For the first time all three clubs are in the National League play-off places and while it’s only 11 games in, the issue isn’t going away.

Just last month, they issued a joint-statement calling for a conference with the FA, Football League and National League to reopen the debate.

Weeks down the line, Sutton are fourth, Bromley sixth and Maidstone seventh, strengthening claims for a serious discussion.

Stones boss Jay Saunders said: “Everyone raves on about it being an advantage to the home club but you have to look at the fact we’ve gone to Eastleigh on a Tuesday night, we’ve gone to Macclesfield on grass and beaten them.

“For me it’s a no-brainer that sooner or later it’s got to be allowed and I’m sure it will.

“It’s great to see the three clubs doing well and I think I saw something the other day that Sutton’s away record is better than their home and I think that was our case last year.

“I’m sure the authorities will make the right decision sooner rather than later.”
