Table tennis player Luke Savill was a winner at the National Championships last weekend.

The Maidstone schoolboy took the under-14 doubles title alongside Lincolnshire player Tom Jarvis and finished runner-up in the singles.

They beat Hugo Pang (Dorset) and Josh Bennett (East Sussex) 11-3, 11-9, 11-6 in the doubles final at Tipton Academy in the west Midlands.

Oakwood Park student Savill lost to his doubles partner in the singles final.

The No.2 seed was beaten 9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-2, 9-11 by the fast and powerful Jarvis in a match with lengthy rallies.

Savill had the momentum after dominating the fourth game but Jarvis came back strongly in the decider and landed an early blow by winning a lob-smash rally.

Two clever points at 9-7 down gave Savill hope but Jarvis held his nerve.
