Maidstone manager Jay Saunders focus is on Ryman League Premier Division game against Leiston not FA Cup tie with Welling United

The chance to reach the FA Cup first round won’t halt Maidstone’s title charge.

There’s excitement at the Gallagher Stadium with United handed a home draw against Vanarama Conference Welling in the final qualifying round on October 25.

But there are points to play for first, with Ryman League Premier Division leaders Stones hosting fifth-placed Leiston tomorrow (Saturday).

Boss Jay Saunders is confident his players’ minds will be on the task in hand. He said: “People are talking about the cup and we’d love to get to the first round but Leiston is our biggest game because it’s the next game.

“When you’re winning games you just get on with it, so I don’t think the FA Cup will affect us, as much as we’re looking forward to it.

“It’s a big weekend in the league with Margate (second) playing at Hendon (third). We’re on a good run and it’s important we carry it on.”

Alex Akrofi and Phil Starkey are available having been cup-tied against Biggleswade last weekend, with Aaron Simpson (knee) the only doubt.
