Matt Bodkin leaves Maidstone United after winning promotion to the Vanarama National League

Matt Bodkin has left Maidstone, following the club's promotion to the top flight of non-league football.

The 32-year-old actually missed the play-off final win over Ebbsfleet earlier this month due to holiday.

Having joined from Margate in 2014, Bodkin made 92 appearances for the Stones and played his part in back-to-back promotions.

"Decisions like this are never easy but I’m in no doubt that he’ll get plenty of offers in the coming days, with managers keen to get someone of his experience," said Maidstone manager Jay Saunders.

"Bodders has been superb for us the last couple of seasons and can be rightly proud of the part he played in our two promotions.

"As a local lad, we look forward to seeing him at the Gallagher in the future.”

He left the Stones on loan in March to join Leatherhead for a month in a bid to play regular matches, after losing his place in the team to Vas Karagiannis, but he returned to the Gallagher before the end of the campaign.
