Maidstone United winger Matt Bodkin will keep emotions in check if he scores at former club Margate

Matt Bodkin won't celebrate if he scores for Maidstone in a top-of-the-table clash at former club Margate.

Double player-of-the-year Bodkin left Gate for United in the summer after three years at Hartsdown Park.

The winger rejected a new deal with Terry Brown's side to sign for Maidstone and has starred in United's flying start to the Ryman League Premier Division campaign.

Bodkin returns to his old club on Tuesday night (7.45pm) looking to strengthen United's hold on top spot.

But he enjoyed his time at Margate and will keep his emotions in check.

He said: "I hope I get a good reception. It would be nice because I had three seasons down there and put everything into it.

"Thankfully I got a couple of awards out of it, which was nice.

"They did want to keep me but it was one of those things where I felt like I needed a change.

"I'd spoken to Jay (Saunders, Stones boss) a few times and felt the time was right now to make my move.

"I wouldn't celebrate if I scored. I'd be happy but I wouldn't shout about it out of respect.

"It's the game everyone's been looking at. Both teams have started really well and one's my old club, so there's something in it for me.

"It will be an interesting encounter. I'm sure they'll play well and it will be a difficult game but fingers crossed we come out on top.

"It will be close, very close. I'd imagine there will be two teams playing half-decent football as well. One or two goals will make the difference."
