Maidstone United loanee Andre Coker announces he is leaving Crystal Palace

Andre Coker has opened the door for a summer move to Maidstone after announcing he is leaving Crystal Palace.

Winger Coker joined Palace as a schoolboy but revealed his time with the Premier League club is coming to an end.

The 20-year-old has been on loan at the Gallagher since January and could be tempted by a permanent switch.

Coker said: “I think that’s my time done at Palace - I think it’s time to move on.

“I’ve had a discussion and they said it’s best for me and I also knew it’s best for me.

“I need to go into men’s football, whatever level that may be, but I need to take my learning to the next step so as we speak now I guess I’m a free agent.

“I’ve been there a long time but the last two seasons of my career have been stagnant.

“I can’t be 21, 22, 23 still playing under-23s football.

“I need to keep moving on and keep learning and that’s my hope.

“Listen, if there’s an offer here, I’m happy here, I like it here, I need to still keep impressing and improving but that’s definitely an option in the back of my mind.

“I’ve got an agent I work with who looks after me and looks after that side of things.

“I also do it by myself as well, I make some calls and I’ve got family members who help me, so it’s a tight unit where we all keep it honest and keep it real with each other and say what we’re going to do and what steps to take.”

Coker starred in an unfamiliar role up front as Maidstone closed in on National League safety by beating AFC Fylde last weekend.

A win at relegated Chester this Saturday would guarantee a third season in the top flight of non-league football, although Coker is surprised they’ve been in trouble.

He said: “Obviously it’s our own doing but with the players we’ve got and the quality and talent we have, we shouldn’t be anywhere near the bottom of the table, let alone fighting or being around the relegation zone.

“We should be way higher and that’s the aims we should have going on for next season.

“We can’t be complacent though. I still want to go up to Chester and get the win, just to concrete safety.

“I don’t want to leave anything to chance.”
