Nearly 200 cricket teams across the county could find themselves with no league to play in next season – unless volunteers come forward to hold office for the Kent Regional League.

Keith Hemstalk, chairman since the league’s inauguration, had warned the annual meeting that it would be his last year and “it was time for new blood with new ideas to take the league forward.”

Now the existing/outgoing committee has called a special general meeting to discuss the future of a league which comprises 20 divisions.

It will be on Wednesday, September 6, at the Mercure Maidstone Great Danes Hotel, Hollingbourne.

“As it stands, we have no new volunteers to take the league forward after the AGM in November," said a spokesman.

“If this is not resolved soon we may need to consider winding up the league. If we don’t get new volunteers/committee then there simply won't be a league next year."

Clubs have been given a list of the officers needed and a few of the jobs to be undertaken.

It includes chairman, deputy chairman, secretary, minute secretary, treasurer, fixture and results secretary, registration and communications officer.
