Josh Hare ended Maidstone's four-month wait for a win and immediately set his sights on climbing the table.
Wing-back Hare pounced in the 88th minute as the Stones beat Torquay for a first National League win in 18 games.
Victory moved them eight points clear of the bottom four in 18th place and Hare wants to push on after his second goal of the season.
He said: "To get the goal and to stop this winless run that everyone's been going on about - obviously we've put ourselves in that position - is a great feeling.
"The last time I scored was Aldershot at home so it was a nice to get a second goal as well.
"That was even later, to draw the game, so it's nice to get a winning goal.
"It was an even better feeling at the end of the game.
"I was sat next to Lee Worgan and he just went to me, 'I feel like I want to cry!'
"It's a great feeling but it's not done yet.
"We need to get a couple more wins just to feel comfortable and hopefully get ourselves back into mid-table, where we should be.
"Look at the run that Maidstone went on last year.
"I remember looking at that from outside the club.
"Get a couple of wins and all of a sudden you go on a little run and you can move all the way up the table again.
"There's still 10 games left, that's a lot of points to play for."
The winless run had been hard to take for Maidstone - particularly as they felt they'd been playing well.
Hare said: "We've been dominating games and, if anything, that's worse.
"We had so much confidence at the start of the season and it's taken a little bit of confidence out of most players in the team.
"Hopefully this gives us a kick up the backside and we win a few games now and get into the middle of the table."
