Joe Healy remains a Maidstone United player despite turning out for Jimmy Bullard's Leatherhead

Maidstone boss Jay Saunders has cleared up confusion over the future of Joe Healy.

Ryman League Leatherhead announced Healy's signing on their website - listing him as a former Maidstone midfielder - and he appeared for Jimmy Bullard's side against Needham Market on Saturday.

But Saunders revealed it's no more than an arrangement for Healy - who has missed the start of the National League season through various commitments - to get fit before linking back up with the Stones.

Saunders, speaking after United's 3-2 win at Torquay, said: "Joe was about today and next Saturday and he said to me, ‘look, obviously you aren’t going to be putting me straight in the team’, and he asked if we could get him a game somewhere.

"I spoke to Leatherhead and they said he could go in and play a couple of games.

"He then goes off for probably two or three weeks and he’s back at the end of October.

"He’s come in and trained with us a few times and this was just a way to get him some game time.

"He’s 100% our player. He’s literally signed a league form for them because they’re Ryman and we’re Conference. He’ll be back with us at the end of October."
