Maidstone manager Jay Saunders wants to put on a show for home fans against Chester

Manager Jay Saunders has called on Maidstone to bring their terrific away form back to the Gallagher.

Stones have won four league games in a row on the road but host Chester on Saturday (3pm) with only two victories on their own patch.

Their last home win came against Woking at the start of September and while they’ve lost only once at the Gallagher, boss Saunders wants to put on a show.

He said: “Certainly away from home we’ve been doing it, we’ve just got to do it at home. I don’t want to make a big thing of it because I don’t want to put pressure on, but you want to pick up your home wins.

“We found it hard to do that last year in this league and we’ve found it tough again.”

Chester climbed out of the bottom four with an injury-time winner against Barrow on Tuesday. There’s a new man in charge in ex-Solihull boss Marcus Bignot, and Saunders is expecting a test.

He said: “Marcus Bignot’s gone in there and he’s signed a couple of players. It’s weird because when we come to play the teams down the bottom, they seem to have a new manager and new players. They’re a bit of an unknown but we’ll do our homework and hopefully put on a good performance at home.”

Magnus Okuonghae has been for a scan on his hip injury while Stones will monitor Joe Anderson (ankle) and Ollie Muldoon (groin). Reece Prestedge was among the substitutes for the midweek win at FC Halifax but could be back in the starting XI as Saunders moves away from the mantra of not changing a winning side.

The Stones boss said: “I always look at things and what could I have done differently.

“When we won at Barrow I stuck with the same side for the Bromley home game, when I should have freshened it up after a long trip, and we lost. There’s nothing to say that Reece doesn’t come back into contention on Saturday if we watch Chester and feel he’ll be a benefit.”
