Maidstone boss Jay Saunders is not leaving for Macclesfield, says chief executive Bill Williams

Maidstone manager Jay Saunders is staying at the club.

Saunders was heavily linked with a move to National League champions Macclesfield - and was quoted as short as 1/10 by bookmakers SkyBet to take up that post.

But Maidstone chief executive Bill Williams has confirmed Saunders is staying at the Gallagher Stadium.

"Over the past day or so, there has been rumour and speculation over the future of our manager Jay Saunders," said Williams.

"To put an end to that, I can confirm that Jay is committed to Maidstone United and will be continuing the role he’s had with the club since 2011.

"We are all looking forward to what is going to be a very exciting season.

"Jay, along with his management team of Steve Watt and Harrison Grant, are busy preparing their pre-season programme and looking to add players to the existing squad."
