Losing is not an option for Maidstone captain Catherine Green and her players in their East Women’s League Division 1 South clash at Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday.

Green’s second-placed side need to win or draw what is their final game of the season to win promotion.

But their Hertfordshire opponents will be just as determined to win. They are third and a win would see them finish ahead of Maidstone and clinch promotion.

The stakes are high and Green is adamant her players won’t get stage fright, despite most of them facing such a huge game for the first time.

Green said: “There is no point getting all worked up about it. If you do, then you start worrying about things and lose focus on the job at hand.

“We know we’ve got to concentrate on playing as well as we can and we’ll be fine. The girls are up for this decider, they are hungry and ready.”

Maidstone booked their date with destiny after a 2-1 win over Folkestone last Saturday saw them move above Bishop’s Stortford.

Youngster Emma Worsford, an under-16 player, opened the scoring in the first half before Green made it 2-0 in the second half.
