Motorbase Performance bosses hope to keep Mat Jackson and Andrew Jordan together in British Touring Car Championship

Motorbase Performance bosses hope to keep Mat Jackson and Andrew Jordan together next year after the pair helped the squad win their maiden title in the British Touring Car Championship.

Leaders at the Wrotham-based team signed 2013 champion Jordan last winter and ran Jackson for the seventh consecutive season this year.

It is now hoped the pair – who helped secure the squad their first independent teams’ trophy this season – can continue their partnership in 2017.

Team manager Oly Collins said: “To have two front-running drivers this season has been a joy to work with – they have both done a cracking job.

“They have both had their bad luck, but, ultimately, we have done as much as we could have done as a team.

“Next year’s plans are still in progress. They work well together and are a good pairing – to have a bit of continuity next year would be nice.”

Jackson finished third in the overall drivers’ standings after finishing 11th in race one at Brands Hatch on Sunday and seventh in race two, before winning the last race of the season.

He enjoyed better fortune than independent drivers’ title winner Jordan, who retired his Ford Focus in race one but took 13th and 11th in the other encounters.

Collins added: “To win the last race of the year with Mat was nice. We wanted the overall drivers’ title, but it was just a bit too far away.”

Honda’s Gordon Shedden won his third British Touring Car Championship on Sunday, narrowly beating Sam Tordoff to the title by two points.

The 2017 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season will start at Brands Hatch on April 1-2.
