Maidstone United players are loving the publicity generated by their FA Cup run.

National newspaper and television coverage has raised the profile of the club over the past week.

And interest will become more intense with the Stevenage replay being shown live on BT Sport on Thursday.

Boss Jay Saunders said: “The players love it and why wouldn’t they? It’s nice for the older ones who’ve had success to taste it again and for the younger ones, it’s a new thing.

“To see Steve Watt make the team of the day in The Sun and seeing pictures in the papers, it’s great.

“Twitter was going mad on my phone and the same goes for the lads. It just shows what a big club this is. It’s nice to get the exposure.”

Saunders appeared on Match of the Day FA Cup highlights during his playing days with Margate and is looking forward to having the BT cameras at the Gallagher Stadium.

He said: “It’s great for the club. You set out at the start of the season to have a good cup run and if you’d asked Terry Casey and Oliver Ash (co-owners), they’d have wanted to get on TV.”
