Maidstone United loanee Alex Finney impressed by National League since joining from QPR

Alex Finney is surprised by the quality in the National League.

Finney arrived on loan at Maidstone from QPR expecting a battle but feels there’s more to the division.

The defender, who is fit again after a groin injury, said: “A lot of people say before you come to the league that it’s just really physical.

“I don’t know why but it’s got labelled as a physical league but people miss out the good technical players.

“There’s a lot of good players in the league and at Maidstone.

“It was a surprise for me, an eye-opener to see how many good players are in the league.”

Finney was arguably Maidstone’s best player in the first two games but went off injured at Ebbsfleet.

Magnus Okuonghae and Alex Wynter have played well in his absence and Finney is happy to bide his time.

He said: “It was unfortunate to get the injury when I did but the boys have been doing well so there’s no complaints that I can’t get back in the team.

“We’ve got two very good centre-halves in the team, so I can’t complain.

“They’re two good boys and they’re playing well.

“I’m just waiting for my opportunity but I’m working hard to get back in the team and, when I do, hopefully I won’t come out.”
