Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders says referee Neil Hair an absolute disgrace in Woking draw

Jay Saunders branded referee Neil Hair an absolute disgrace after Maidstone’s 4-4 draw at Woking.

Saunders vowed to report Hair to the National League following Saturday’s match at Kingfield.

The Stones boss felt he was terrible for both sides but was particularly upset with Woking’s third goal after Inih Effiong got away with a series of fouls on Seth Twumasi before setting up Charlie Carter to make it 3-3.

Saunders felt Maidstone should have had two penalties in the first half and another in the second and couldn’t believe Hair’s display.

He said: “You come away from home and score four goals and you should be going back with three points but the referee - if it gets me in trouble, it gets me in trouble - was an absolute disgrace today.

“That’s probably one of the worst refereeing displays I’ve seen in my career in football, I’ve never seen anything like it.

“There’s probably five fouls in there on Seth. It’s just embarrassing and it’s not just for us, for both teams he was an embarrassment.”

Saunders said the referee laughed at him when he questioned his decisions and intends to report him.

He added: “It just shows you, they go on about players not cheating and not going down, Seth’s been too honest there.

“Because he’s a strong boy he’s tried to stay up but he’s been pulled back.

“If that’s on a centre-forward it’s given as a foul all day long and you know that because that’s what happens.

“As a defender, he’s done his job, he’s tried to clear the ball but there’s four or five fouls on him.

“It’s ridiculous. I just said to the ref it’s one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen and I stand by that.

“Whether that gets me in trouble or not I really couldn’t care.

“Every game now is all about the referees, that’s all you talk about, and it’s wrong.

“The worst thing is they’re laughing at you.

“You try and talk to the fourth official and the ref and the ref’s standing there laughing at you because he doesn’t care, he goes home now and has a nice evening and I have to go and answer to everyone about letting in four goals.”
