Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders on 2-1 defeat by Ebbsfleet

Jay Saunders condemned the mistakes that led to Maidstone's derby defeat by Ebbsfleet.

Seth Twumasi made a mess of a clearance for the opener and Reece Prestedge was at fault for the second as Jack Powell's double gave Fleet a 2-1 win at the Gallagher last night.

Stones boss Saunders said: "I don't know what to say. I don't think there was a hell of a lot in the game.

"It's two individual mistakes and you can't account for that.

"You can do everything right - I thought we were quite comfortable in the shape and I don't think Worgs has had bundles of saves to make - but it's two mistakes.

"The first one, Seth's under no pressure, he's got to clear the ball and he plays it straight to their player for a shot on goal on the edge of the box.

"We get back to 1-1, we're playing some good stuff and then the ball goes under Reece Prestedge's foot or over it and it's crazy, you're gifting two goals.

"You do that at any level and you aren't going to win games of football and that's what we're doing at the moment."

Powell's winner took a big deflection but Saunders said: "You make your own luck. If you're going to let balls run over your foot and things like that then that's going to happen.

"Things aren't really going our way at the moment but I don't want to make excuses for that.

"We're causing our own downfall and that's disappointing.

"I've got no issue with losing games but you can't give teams goals and at the moment, if you look at today and Woking on Saturday, the goals are horrific."
