Maidstone United defender Will De Havilland out cold in defeat by Hartlepool

Will De Havilland couldn’t remember a thing about the incident that left him out cold in Maidstone’s defeat by Hartlepool.

De Havilland was stretchered off wearing a neckbrace following a bad landing in the Pools box after winning a header.

The on-loan Wycombe defender was treated for five minutes before being carried off but came to in the Gallagher Stadium treatment room.

Boss Jay Saunders, speaking shortly after yesterday's game, said: “He can’t remember anything happening.

“He’s come round now but that’s a blow because, concussion, you’ll lose him probably now for a couple of weeks minimum. Thankfully he’s OK.”

Maidstone dropped to 18th after losing 2-1 to a resurgent Pools team who climbed above Saunders’ men after a fifth game unbeaten.

The Stones created enough chances but had only Ross Lafayette’s injury-time goal to show for their efforts.

Saunders, his side five points clear of the bottom four, said: “We’ve had plenty of the ball, plenty of chances, plenty of ball in good areas, put the ball in the box a hell of a lot.

“But I think obviously it’s been an issue for a little while, and we’ve tried different things, but in the final third we’re probably lacking someone who’s going to put the ball in the back of the net, and that’s frustrating.

“We got in some great areas and the keeper’s pulled off some great saves, to be fair to him, but then other times we have to do better.

“We put a lot of balls in the box but not good enough or if they were we didn’t react so that was obviously a problem today which is frustrating because, like I say, we had a hell of a lot of possession and played some good stuff at times but that doesn’t always get you three points.”

Maidstone, who go to Dagenham on Easter Monday, are still looking over their shoulder.

Saunders said: "Nothing changes. We’ve still got to get two wins on the board.

“You’re always looking at it and I just said to the boys in there, you have to think about it because we haven’t been able to see games out this season.

“I’ve lost count of the amount of times we’ve played here and been on top in games and had chances to win the game and haven’t done that.”
