Maidstone are in big trouble in the National League after losing to relegation rivals Solihull Moors.

United could have no complaints after going down to Tyrone Williams’ 25th-minute goal.

They were barely in the game in a poor first half that saw Solihull comfortably on top and it didn’t get much better in the second.

Moors were on a high having climbed out of the relegation zone for the first time since September and it showed.

There was a zip in their play, they looked lively going forward and, on a run of four clean sheets, had no worries defensively.

Maidstone, on the other hand, couldn’t get going, with long balls going out of play or gobbled up and when they did get on the ball and pass it, they quickly broke down.

That said, the visitors had the best early chance when keeper Max O’Leary spilled Jai Reason’s cross but Greg Luer’s shot was blocked.

Moors’ dominance didn’t lead to stacks of chances although they went close with Jermaine Hylton’s deflected strike from 20 yards.

The opener followed from a short corner in the 25th minute with Stones not switched on as former Birmingham man Darren Carter exchanged passes with Jamey Osborne before the ball was fizzed across the six-yard box for Williams to bundle home.

Lee Worgan had to be switched on just before half-time, getting down well as Kwame Thomas tried to catch him out at his near post.

Jay Saunders made a double change at the break, replacing Saturday’s star man Reece Prestedge and Jai Reason with Michael Phillips and Jamar Loza.

But Maidstone almost conceded a second in the first couple of minutes with Hylton beating Alex Finney and chipping Worgan only to see the ball hit the bar.

Joe Anderson hit the wall with a 20-yard free-kick and Alex Wynter’s header from a Phillips cross was comfortably held.

But Saunders wasn’t seeing enough improvement and the final substitution followed before the hour mark with Blair Turgott replacing Alex Finney in a change of shape.

It looked like Worgan might be about to miss his first game in five years when he fouled George Carline outside his area.

Referee Paul Marsden went quickly to his pocket but it was just a booking for the Stones keeper.

It was just as well Worgan stayed on because he saved Maidstone following a swift Moors counter-attack.

Kyle Storer tackled Stuart Lewis and led the charge, with Osborne taking over before Adi Yusuff was denied.
