Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders considering 16-year-old Jack Richards for play-offs

Academy forward Jack Richards is a genuine contender for Maidstone's National South play-off games.

The 16-year-old enjoyed an excellent full debut in United's 1-1 draw with Bishop's Stortford at the weekend.

And he's in manager Jay Saunders' thoughts for the two-legged play-off semi-final against Truro, quite an achievement given Stones have everyone bar Matt Bodkin available.

Saunders said: "Giving young Jack a run-out was good for him and he fully deserved that.

"It’s not just a one-off, he’s seriously in our thoughts for being involved in the play-offs.

"For a 16-year-old he's very confident, always wants the ball and won't shy away from anything. I thought he did really well.

"He's someone who's got a good future at the club.

"That wasn't 'oh, let's give him a game because he's an academy lad'.

"I work with him every day, he's trained with the first team since Christmas and been outstanding.

"I don't think any of the boys were particularly shocked when I named him in the side because they know he's good enough."

Stones travel to Truro for the first leg on Wednesday night.
