Jack Parkinson will play centre-half for Maidstone in National South next season.

Boss Jay Saunders used the versatile Parkinson solely in midfield as Stones won the Ryman League, Premier Division but believes he’ll be most effective in defence at the next level.

Saunders said: “Jack did play both roles for Woking but when you look at his time in Conference National and Conference South, he’s always been a centre-half and that’s where I’ll be looking to play him.

“I played him in midfield last season because I felt we needed to go big and strong to get out of the Ryman Premier.

“I made a point of playing two sitting players in there and it worked because we got promoted.

“You do what you have to do to get up but Jack won’t be playing midfield next year – he’s centre-half.

“It’s another reason I let Sonny Miles go because I knew I wanted to put Jack back there.”
