Ryman League round-up

Maidstone went back to the top of the Ryman League Premier Division with a 2-1 win at Canvey Island.

Alex Brown and Matt Bodkin scored the goals as they ended a run of four straight draws to go top on goal difference ahead of Margate, who's game at Leiston was postponed.

VCD fought back from a goal down to earn a point at Witham Town. Aaron Jeffrey struck five minutes from time to cancel out Ryan Charles' first-half strike. The result leaves VCD a point away from safety.

Elsewhere in the division, Tonbridge Angels were beaten 1-0 at Kingstonian thanks to a Jake Kempton strike.

In Division 1 South Faversham moved level with league leaders Burgess Hill Town thanks to a 3-0 win against Three Bridges.

Two goals in four second-half minutes from Jack Harris and Sam Bewick did the damage before Kieran Oliver sealed the win in the final minute.

Burgess Hill, who have four games in hand on Faversham, were in FA Trophy action - beaten 2-1 by Conference side Dartford.

Whitstable gave their play-off hopes a massive boost with an impressive 3-2 derby win at promotion-chasing Folkestone.

Ian Pulman gave Whitstable the lead in the first half, but Invicta levelled on the hour through Jordan Wright.

Jake Mackenzie restored the Oystermen's advantage six minutes later and Nick Treadwell made it 3-1 to the visitors with 13 minutes remaining.

James Everitt pulled one back in the 90th minute to set up a tense finale, but Whitstable held on for the three points.

The result leaves Whitstable two places and two points off a play-off place and all-but ends Folkestone's title chances, leaving them to concentrate on cementing a spot in the play-offs.

Struggling Ramsgate and Hythe fought out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Southwood, as the home side fought back twice to earn a point.

Craig Thompson gave Hythe the lead on 20 minutes and James Morrish doubled the advantage on 38 minutes, only for James Sherman to pull one back a minute later for the Rams.

Ricky Gundhri levelled things up seven minutes into the second half, but former Ramsgate midfielder Michael Yianni restored Hythe's lead just after the hour mark.

However Rams hit back to share the points when Macauley Murray made it 3-3 just seven minutes later.

The result leaves Ramsgate in the relegation zone but have two games in hand on Hythe, who are just five points ahead.

In Division 1 North, Chatham earned a vital point in their battle to avoid the drop - but they were close to all three.

Kieron McCann gave them the lead against Ware in the 14th minute, but they failed to hang on. The visitors equalised 18 minutes from time through Albert Adu.

Chatham are three places and seven points clear of the drop zone, but Barkingside, who fill the final spot, have several games in hand on the sides above them.

Cray Wanderers, however, edged another step closer to relegation after they lost 3-1 at Maldon & Tiptree - they are now 11 points from safety.

Elsewhere, Thamesmead won 2-1 at home to Tilbury thanks to a last-minute goal from Leslie Thompson.

George Benner had given Town the lead halfway through the first half, before the away side thought they had snatched a point in the 86th minute when Jack West equalised.
