Maidstone are top of the table for the first time in two months - but boss Jay Saunders isn’t getting carried away.

Saunders expects mid-table Met Police to raise their game at the Gallagher and knows Tuesday night’s trip to improving Thamesmead won’t be easy.

Saunders said: “We’ve been top before and I don’t want to get excited just because we’re there again.

“It’s not that long since we dropped to fifth and people were saying how bad we were.

“I believe we’ve got a hell of a squad here.

“We’ve had eight or nine players out injured but have kept plugging away.

“A few people had a moan-up after we drew with Hendon a couple of weeks ago but everyone is behind the side.”

Jerrome Sobers (thigh) and Michael Phillips (knee) returned from injury at Wingate but captain Steve Watt (calf) could be out for another fortnight.
