Maidstone boss Jay Saunders eager for more success this season ahead of FA Trophy clash

Maidstone boss Jay Saunders is wary of the threat posed by Bognor in Saturday's FA Trophy clash at the Gallagher Stadium.

The winners will be £5,000 richer and four wins from Wembley and Stones go into the first round tie as favourites.

But with Bognor pushing for promotion into National League South, it’s unlikely to be a straightforward afternoon.

“It’s a big game,” Saunders said. “It’s the Trophy and we want to take it seriously. I’ll go as strong as I possibly can.

“Bognor will be a tough test, they’re always a good side. They’re up there this year in the Ryman and it’s never an easy game against them.

“Priority-wise, it’s high up there. We want to do well but it’s certainly not going to be easy.”

Maidstone last reached the second round of the FA Trophy three years ago and were knocked out by Eastleigh at this stage of the competition last season.

Saunders said: “As a club, since we’ve been back here, we’ve won something every year whether that be the League Cup or promotion.

“The club’s used to having a bit of success and it would be great to have a bit more this year."
