Maidstone United have signed defender Phil Starkey from AFC Hornchurch - but he won't make his debut just yet.

Stones fans will have to wait to see the 27-year-old in action as work commitments rule him out of the Ryman League Premier Division game at Witham on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

But he could make his debut when United host Wingate & Finchley in the club's first Sunday match at the Gallagher Stadium this weekend (4pm).

Starkey, who plays mainly at right-back, joined the Urchins from Margate last summer.

He started his career at Crystal Palace and has also played for Ebbsfleet, Tonbridge, Braintree and Dover.

Stones boss Jay Saunders had been looking to add an experienced right-back to his squad following Dean Pooley's move to Ebbsfleet.

Saunders has also signed former Charlton midfielder Bradley Jordan.

He captained Athletic's under-21 side and had loan spells at Notts County and Forest Green Rovers.
