Alex Flisher and Jay May scored two goals apiece as Maidstone hit back from a goal down to thrash Leiston at the Gallagher Stadium on Saturday.

Flisher set up both goals for May, who laid on one in return, while Stones were thankful for Lee Worgan's second-half penalty save while only 2-1 in front.

Maidstone are now five points clear at the top of the Ryman League Premier Division after Margate lost 3-2 at Hendon.

United fell behind inside two minutes with Adam Tann gifted a free header from Gareth Heath's free-kick, Phil Starkey penalised for a challenge on Joe Francis.

United levelled on five minutes, Flisher combining with Frannie Collin and continuing his run to ease the ball past keeper Danny Gay.

Gay made a brilliant low save to keep out Sonny Miles' header from a Flisher cross, then Jack Parkinson had a fierce hit blocked after controlling Collin's cross.

Player-of-the-month Flisher was popping up all over the place and was inevitably involved as Maidstone went 2-1 up after 24 minutes.

Parkinson fed Flisher deep inside his own half, with the Stones winger launching a 70-yard run to the byline before crossing for May.

There were further chances before half-time with Parkinson's close-range header tipped over and Tom Mills' 20-yard cracker hitting the bar.

A well-timed challenge in the box by Joe Jeffard put a stop to another storming long run from Flisher as Stones' main man threatened after the break.

Worgan kept Maidstone ahead with an outstanding double save midway through the half after James Rogers' challenge on Francis led to a penalty.

He got down superbly to keep out Stuart Boardley's spot-kick and also saved the follow-up when a goal looked certain.

Stones went 3-1 up on 74 minutes with May neatly feeding Flisher and getting himself into the box to head home the cross.

The fourth goal, on 80 minutes, was all about the quality of May's clipped pass over the top of the defence to set up Flisher who made no mistake.

Maidstone: Worgan, Starkey, Mills, Watt, Miles, Rogers (Brown 81mins), Bodkin (Akrofi 79mins), Parkinson, May (Jordan 83mins), Collin, Flisher. Subs not used: Greenhalgh, Godmon.
