Maidstone United co-owner Terry Casey says council should be ashamed of themselves over land demands

Terry Casey has accused the borough council of standing in the way of Maidstone's progress and claims they should be ashamed.

Stones co-owner Casey says the council want "stupid" money for a strip of wasteland needed to build the 600-seat West Stand at the Gallagher Stadium.

United won their fight to buy the land at a hearing last year, when councillors overturned the initial offer of a long-term lease.

But the asking price is now the stumbling block and Casey has had enough.

He said: "We can't move on with that because Maidstone Borough Council are just so obstructive and unhelpful.

"As far as I'm concerned, they are determined to stop us developing and I don't know why.

"It mystifies me and they should be ashamed of themselves quite frankly.

"We've spent well over £20,000 just getting this far but unless the council give us a bit of a break we can't build on it.

"It's the principle of us paying Maidstone Borough Council, who are supposed to represent the people of the town, an outrageously large sum of money for a strip of scrubland that's of no use to anybody at all. It's worthless."
