Maidstone United 3 Walton & Hersham 2 - FA Trophy match report

Alex Flisher led Maidstone into the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy on Saturday - having trailed at half-time.

Flisher scored twice after the break at the Gallagher Stadium as United avoided an upset against Walton & Hersham from Ryman League Division 1 South.

Pacey Swans twice took the lead in a sluggish first half for the Stones.

They went ahead after 12 minutes with Gareth Chendik shaking off Sonny Miles out wide and seeing his cross turned in by defender Jamie Coyle for an own goal.

United levelled three minutes later with Jay May finishing after Frannie Collin and Matt Bodkin had efforts blocked.

Stones keeper Lee Worgan made a handful of straightforward saves as Walton enjoyed the best of the half.

But when Worgan charged out of his goal on 35 minutes, Dylan Cascoe got his toe to the ball first and found the empty net to put Walton 2-1 up.

Having been off their game, United made an ideal start to the second half with Flisher running through and lashing the ball past Gary Ross.
Jack Parkinson then headed wide from Tom Mills' cross after neat work by May outside the box.

Maidstone - desperate to avoid a Tuesday replay ahead of their FA Cup tie at Stevenage - were making all the running and went 3-2 up on 67 minutes with Parkinson's cross brilliantly headed home by Flisher.

Substitutes Ben Greenhalgh and Alex Brown tried their luck as Maidstone finished well on top.

Maidstone: Worgan, Starkey, Mills, Coyle, Miles, Jordan, Bodkin (Rogers 70mins), Parkinson, May (Greenhalgh 64mins), Collin, Flisher (Brown 74mins). Subs not used: Akrofi, Godmon.
Attendance: 1,226
