Maidstone United working hard to replace Joe Pigott

Maidstone have drawn a blank in the transfer market this week.

They are working hard to strengthen the squad, including a replacement
for Joe Pigott after the striker joined AFC Wimbledon, but it’s easier said than done.

Boss Jay Saunders said: “We’re trying. I had a list of 10 players that are of interest to me. Six of them have gone elsewhere in the Football League.

“I want to bring in people with the calibre to make a real difference to us and if anything be players that will maybe kick on again, like Pigs has.

“That’s what we’re looking for and when you’re doing that it takes time to get the right ones.

“We might have to be patient but I don’t want to be too patient because we are stretched. We’ll keep looking.”

United received an undisclosed fee for Pigott and could be willing to pay for the right replacement.

It's a conversation Saunders needs to have with chief exeuctive Bill Williams and owners Terry Casey and Oliver Ash.

Saunders said: "I've given some names that I'd like and me and Bill are working on that, and then we'll go to Terry and see what he comes up with but until the right players are available we won't have that discussion.

"Once they're available and I know what ones we want then we can put some figures across and we'll go from there.

"I'm sure if the right player was there then we would pay a fee.

"They've always been great with me before but it's got to be right players and if it's not then I'm not just going to pay for someone just because we've been given some money."
