Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders expects reaction against AFC Fylde

Maidstone manager Jay Saunders has demanded a reaction as his side bid to avoid the drop.

Relegation worries deepened after a 1-0 defeat at Solihull Moors on Tuesday night left them only three points clear of the bottom four.

They meet play-off contenders AFC Fylde at the Gallagher on Saturday with Saunders calling for a response.

He thinks one win from the final three games should be enough to survive but even that won't be easy having won only two of their past 25 league matches.

Saunders said: "I've told the players what I feel and I'll expect a response but we've got to get a side from somewhere that's going to get us three or four goals in the next three games, and that's a problem.

"We've got 47 points and I still think 50 points would just about see you there but we've been saying that for months and we haven't been able to get there.

"We've just got to keep working hard.

"Fylde's not going to be easy - they're one of the best sides we've played.

"I was really impressed with them up at their place so it's going to be really difficult but there'll be changes, people that have been left out of the side, left out of the squad are going to get a run."

Ross Lafayette was the only striker scoring for Maidstone but he's been recalled by Sutton for the run-in.

They have to find goals from somewhere and Saunders is ready to shuffle his pack after a poor performance at Solihull.

That could mean starts for the likes of Andre Coker and Tom Wraight, who didn't make the squad on Tuesday, or Darius Osei, an unused substitute.

He said: "We've got to look at something. I've got nothing to lose, have I?

"I've given people ample opportunities to stake a claim and in that final third I could change three or four players.

"We've got to do it because we've got to find a way of getting goals in the side.

"It was difficult losing Ross on the eve of the game, when you've got plans in your head.

"He was the only one scoring for us, so it's a big blow."
