West Brom trial for Maidstone United youngster Victor Sodeinde

Maidstone academy forward Victor Sodeinde is on trial with Premier League club West Brom.

He joined up with the Baggies on Monday and is set to spend the rest of the week in the West Midlands.

West Brom were alerted by Sodeinde’s prolific form in United’s academy while the youngster, who plays out wide or up front, will spend next week with League 1 Charlton.

Stones boss Jay Saunders said: “He’s someone that’s scored a lot of goals in the academy.

“He did well in the FA Youth Cup and after we played Bromley I had Charlton and a few other clubs who wanted to take him in.

“I believe he’s doing a week with West Brom, he’s then going to come back and do a week with Charlton and I think there’s one or two other clubs as well.

“We’ve got one or two others that clubs are looking at.

“It’s not good for us because if we lose them we get nothing but it’s good for them, it’s good experience, even if they don’t get anything.”

Sodeinde, who made the bench at Macclesfield, is someone Saunders feels has a chance of pushing on even though he’s some way off United’s first team.

The Stones boss added: “He needs a lot of work but he’s someone that’s got the rawness, he’s got pace, he seems to be in the right place at the right time.

“Even when he’s not having a great game he’ll be there for the tap-ins.

“He’s long way off our first team.

“Jack Richards is a long way in front of him and, at the moment, Jack can’t get in the side, so it kind of tells you where Victor’s at - but he is someone with a future in the game.”
