Captain Steve Watt will continue to speak to referees – even if he risks further bookings.

Watt is set to return to the Maidstone team at Leiston on Saturday after serving a two-match ban for collecting 10 yellow cards.

The big defender hit double figures with a booking for dissent at Bury Town but feels he’s been harshly treated and won’t stop speaking up for his team.

He said: “There’s been a lot of talk about dissent at the club but three of my 10 bookings were for dissent and two of them I don’t count because all I did was ask a question. I’ve not raised my voice or used any bad language.

“For the other seven bookings, I can’t remember making a bad tackle. A lot of them would be harsh if you looked back.

“Of the three for dissent, at Witham I asked about a handball and Bury a free-kick. The booking at East Thurrock was fair enough and I’ve learned from that.

“As captain, you’re told by referees you can talk to them. I’m aware I’m very vocal but you shouldn’t get booked for asking a question.

“It won’t affect me and I can’t let it affect me. It’s an attribute in my game."
