Maidstone United set to lose Alex Wynter while Alex Finney close to a decision

Alex Wynter looks set to leave Maidstone after talks with manager Jay Saunders.

The Stones boss would love Wynter to stay but a deal for the highly-rated defender looks unlikely.

Saunders said: “I’ve had a chat with Wynts and we’re a long way apart on where he needs to be financially so I don’t think at the moment that one will be happening.”

Fellow centre-half Alex Finney is close to making a decision on his future.

Saunders wants to bring the double player-of-the-year back to the Gallagher after his year on loan.

He’s attracted big interest since leaving QPR but Saunders isn’t giving up.

He said: “We’re still in contact with Finney.

“He’s got a hell of a lot of offers on the table from other clubs and he’s making his mind up on what he wants to do.

“I think by the end of this week he wants to make a decision so I’m hopeful but we’ll have to see.”

Jamar Loza is another out-of-contract player yet to decide his future.

Talks were put on hold after news of Macclesfield’s interest in Saunders broke this week.

But the Stones boss is staying put and was planning to resume negotiations with the ex-Norwich man.

He’s also hoping to tie up a couple of new signings.

Saunders said: “I spoke to Loza on Tuesday.

“Obviously he’d read what was going on with Macclesfield so it kind of put it on hold but I’ll speak to him again and then we’ve got a couple of targets we’re also talking to about trying to bring to the club.

“I’m hopeful that by the end of the week we’ll have maybe a new signing and one of the old boys signed as well.”

It was business as usual for Saunders while he considered Macclesfield’s offer to succeed John Askey.

He had plenty to think about but kept his eye on the ball.

He said: “Nothing's changed the last few days.

“I've still been talking to players because, as far as I was concerned, I was still Maidstone manager.

"To be fair to Bill (Williams, chief executive), I've been speaking to him daily and he's been very supportive and understood the situation I was in.”
