Bomb disposal team called to West Malling

A bomb disposal team descended on West Malling this morning after an unexploded device was found.

Police and army officials were called to a property in Norman Road on Monday evening to reports the war time explosive had been found in a garden.

The scene was made safe with all entrances to Macey's Meadow sealed off and the device detonated the following morning.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “We received a call at 5:23pm on Monday, August 31, after a member of the public found what he believed to be an unexploded munition at his address in Norman Road, West Malling.

“The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Team was contacted and Kent Police attended to ensure public safety. The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Team detonated the item on the morning of Tuesday, September 1. Kent Police then left the scene.”
