Kent couple collecting stamps to help charity prevent stillbirth and neonatal death

A couple are collecting stamps to raise money to tackle stillbirth and neonatal deaths.

Rebecca Pullen, 29, and her husband, Matt, 31, have set themselves the ambitious target of collecting 25kg of postage stamps, approximately 130,000, which can be recycled to raise funds for Kicks Count.

The charity works to reduce preventable infant deaths by educating mothers-to-be and raise awareness of the importance of a baby’s movements in the womb.

Mrs Pullen wanted to support the charity after problems arose when she was pregnant with her daughter, Victoria, who is now four-years-old.

“We had gone to the hospital because her movements had slowed compared to normal and the midwives wanted to check on her.”

“The whole pregnancy had been smooth up until this point and I had no other risk factors. The only indication of a problem was her changing movement pattern.”

Victoria was delivered by emergency caesarean section, born prematurely at 34 weeks and weighing only 4lb 3oz.

“We were informed that if we hadn’t of gone to the hospital when we did, it may have been that neither of us would have survived.”

“It was very shocking but we were very fortunate that we had a happy outcome. It doesn’t bear thinking about the experiences that other people have.”

Mrs Pullen, who works for the NHS, now has a second daughter, Lydia, who is eight months old.

She hopes to meet her target by the end of the year.

The 25kg will raise enough money to educate 13,750 women in the UK.
