The other route was a 404 Go-Coach, which runs between Plaxtol and Edenbridge via Sevenoaks.

Norman Kemp, a spokesman for Nu-Venture, said: "This road is very narrow and unfortunately the drivers got entangled. The schedule is such that they always pass in this area, but unfortunately on this occasion they met at a particularly narrow part.

"There was a delay to services and assistance had to be called in. Obviously we do not like these things happening and we try to minimise damage when they do."

Andy Wells, operations manager for Go-Coach, said: "During this morning’s 07.30am journey on route 404, the bus had a coming together with a service operating in the opposite direction.

"After some time both vehicles were untangled and able to continue operating minus any damage or injury. A replacement bus was deployed further along the route to provide a service to reduce the delay to the initial bus."
