Fallen tree blocks train line between Maidstone West and Strood

Train commuters faced major disruption after a tree fell on the line near Aylesford.

Southeastern confirmed it happened at around 3.30pm blocking both lines between Maidstone West and Strood for almost two hours.

The obstruction was eventually cleared by staff using chainsaws and the track reopened at around 5.20pm.

But the operator says train services on the Medway Valley line running through Maidstone West and Strood are likely to be delayed or could even be cancelled.

Services did not return to normal until at around 6.30pm.
