Tree blocks Seven Mile Lane on junction with Comp Lane, near Wrotham Heath

A busy road is closed in both directions after a tree fell on a Landrover Discovery.

No one is believed to have been injured, but Seven Mile Lane has been shut since about 5pm causing congestion between Mereworth and Wrotham Heath.

Both lanes have been closed by police as the incident is dealt with by Kent County Council.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to a report that a tree had fallen on a vehicle on Seven Mile Lane, Mereworth.

"Nobody was injured but a road closure is currently in place while the vehicle and tree are removed."

Council workers say a second tree near the fallen trunk needs to be felled, which means the road is unlikely to reopen before 9pm.

Motorists are advised to expect delays on surrounding roads and use an alternative route.
