Queues on M20 London-bound between J7 for Detling and J4 for Leybourne due to fog and a lorry fire

Fog caused delays on west Kent's road this morning.

The poor visibility means that London-bound traffic on the M20 was moving slowly between J7 for Detling and J4 for Leybourne during rush hour.

The problems were made worse when a lorry caught fire between J8 for Leeds and J9 for Ashford at 8.20am.

It started after the brakes began to overheat and fire crews spent nearly half an hour making the scene safe.

There were also queues on the A26 Maidstone Road near Mereworth after a crash involving one vehicle.

A Mercedes van reportedly left the road and landed on its side by a tree after the accident, by the A228 roundabout at around 5.20am.

The driver was taken to hospital, but his injuries are not yet known.

The road remains open.

Five minutes later, a car crashed by the A229 in Aylesford.

The Citroen Saxo damaged the crash barrier in the collision, on the slip-road from Blue Bell Hill at Lord Lees.

No injuries were reported but there were delays.
