Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident, which happened on the A227 Gravesend Road just before 1pm, involving a car and lorry.

The air ambulance landed nearby, and the victim - thought to have been in the car at the time of the crash - has been taken to Darent Valley Hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Due to a police car being in the vicinity of the collision, the incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission to investigate.

There are queues in the area and Arriva's 308 bus services are severely delayed and will be diverting via Longfield and Farningham.

There will be a shuttle service between Gravesend town centre and Vigo until the road clears.
