Harveys sofa protester to appear on ITV show Britain Sees Red: Caught On Camera

A frustrated customer who staged a protest outside a furniture store from the roof of his flat bed truck is due to appear on a documentary tonight.

Father-of-two Ian Hayden hit the headlines after becoming embroiled in a lengthy dispute with Harveys after sofas and a footstool he brought from the company started to fade after just a few months.

The 44-year-old Paddock Wood builder felt he had exhausted all options so took matters into his own hands in March, turning up at the South Aylesford Retail Park store and holding a placard posing the question “how long do you think a Harveys sofa should last?”.

Mr Hayden, of Warrington Road, abandoned his protest after around an hour when security asked him to leave the privately-owned car park.

Police were also called to the scene but said no crime had been committed.

Within a week the unhappy shopper had been given a full refund of £2,500 and was allowed to keep the faulty products.

Now Mr Hayden will be appearing on Britain Sees Red: Caught On Camera, a two-part documentary on ITV featuring consumers who have been pushed over the edge and the staff on the receiving end.

He said: “I wasn’t getting anywhere with Harveys, they were washing their hands of it. It’s a shame it got to that stage but I was left with no other choice.”

He added: “I would recommend that course of action to anyone left in a similar position. I wasn’t going to roll over and the comments from readers online clearly showed people related to my situation.”

The final episode of Britain Sees Red airs at 9pm.
