Petition presented to Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council by residents of Quarry Hill Road, Borough Green, calling for traffic calming measures

Sleep-deprived Borough Green residents are pleading with the local council to install traffic calming measures to ease excessive noise levels.

People living in Quarry Hill Road and the surrounding area have presented Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council with a petition calling for 20mph speed restrictions and a curfew for heavy goods vehicles which use the stretch of road as a shortcut to the nearby Hornet Business Estate.

Residents describe the route as a “rat run” and want to see a notable change in driving following numerous incidents of drivers using the road instead of the A25 and exceeding 30mph throughout the day and night.

Of particular concern is the risk such driving poses to young children and elderly people who often walk beside the road to get to the pre-school and medical centre.]

Many of the homes in Quarry Hill Road are directly on the roadside.

Borough Green Parish Council, who have pledged their support for the campaign, say there have been numerous complaints from members of the public about the road and the environment it creates.

Kent County Council Highways will only consider imposing traffic calming measures if stretches of road are proved to be particularly dangerous.
