Travellers move next to Aylesford Bulls Rugby Club

Travellers who moved on to land behind a village rugby club yesterday evening have now left.

Several caravans, transit vans and construction equipment tore through Aylesford Bulls Rugby Club's car park just after 5pm.

The convoy crossed the grounds before setting up camp at land off Coldharbour Lane, near the London 3 South East outfit's third team pitch.

Vehicles continued to cross the pitches to access the site overnight.

A spokesman for the club said: "Police have been made aware and the incident is being dealt with, hopefully they will be moved on as soon as possible."

Police confirmed they were called to the Hall Road club at 5.15pm to reports of a traveller incursion.

A spokesman said: "The matter will be dealt with by the landowner, which is the standard procedure in terms of any eviction process."

A Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council spokesman said: "The borough council has been informed that travellers have moved on to land owned by Aylesford Parish Council and is working with the Parish Council and the Police to assess appropriate next steps."

Neil Harris, clerk for Aylesford Parish Council, said: "We are taking the necessary legal steps."

However, at around midday the group departed the site.
