Police warning after spate of burglaries in west Kent

Police are warning residents to be vigilant after a spate of thefts and burglaries in west Kent.

Officers on the West division, which covers Sevenoaks, Maidstone, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, are investigating a number of reports which have been received over the past week.

They include items stolen from homes in Tonbridge, and in particular Deakin Leas and Kings Road. Goods taken include electrical devices, power tools and bicycles.

Enquiries into these reports remain ongoing.

Acting Det Sgt Suzanne Basford said: "In some of the reports we’ve received burglars appear to have entered through a backdoor which had been left open or unlocked – possibly due to the weather getting warmer. Unfortunately, this does create opportunities for opportunistic offenders.

"Kent Police will always thoroughly investigate the circumstances behind any reported incident but it is always better to prevent offending where we can and there are some simple steps all members of the public can take to help deter thieves."

Advice includes keeping doors, windows and outbuildings locked, keeping valuables out of view, and installing security alarms, lights or cameras.
