Fog spike used in Tudeley chimney fire

Firefighters were called to a chimney alight in a property in Half Moon Lane, Tudeley, yesterday afternoon.

The call came in at 4.50pm. Crews used a specialised piece of equipment known as a fog spike to tackle the blaze. The fog spike is used to punch holes into a structure and then deliver water inside the chimney, creating a super-fine mist to dramatically reduce the temperature and the spread of a fire.

There were no reported injuries.

As this is the season when many residents are starting to use open fires and wood-burning stoves again after a summer break, Kent Fire and Rescue is urging all householders to check that their chimneys and flues are swept clean first.

Crews left the scene at 5.45pm.
