Jaguar car torched on owner's drive in Moat Lane, Lower Upnor

Police are investigating after a high-end car was apparently torched on its owner's drive.

Neighbours alerted a family of six in Moat Lane, Lower Upnor, after seeing their black Jaguar on fire just after 3.30am today.

One of the family's four children woke up and raised the alarm.

Ten firefighters spent more than an hour at the scene.

Sam Comer, crew manager at Strood Fire Station, said: "It was on the front drive of a house parked next to three other cars, which fortunately only had minor damage from the heat.

"It was well alight when we arrived and it had also started to burn the front corner of the house and garage. The family had already evacuated to the back garden.

"It took a little bit of time to put out because it had quite a lot of fuel in its tank, so we used foam on the fire."

The fire is being treated as suspicious.
