Man arrested on suspicion of wasting police time

A man has been arrested on suspicion of wasting police time and obstructing the railway after an incident in Rochester on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to Rochester Bridge to reports of concern for a man.

Medway Police, British Transport Police, the Sheerness Inshore Lifeboat and Medway Coastguard Rescue Team were all called to the bridge around 4.50am.

Officers and police negotiators remained at the scene until just after 6am.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said: “A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of obstructing the railway and wasting police time. He remains in police custody.”
