A mother and father, accused of dealing drugs in front of their children, have appeared in court.

The pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are charged with supplying class A drugs, including crack cocaine and heroin, and neglecting their children, who are under the age of six.

The incident is believed to have come to the attention of police after a drug user allegedly went to the couple's former home in Chatham to score some drugs and saw children running around the house.

He is said to have told police about his concerns and the home was later raided by police.

The mother and father, both in their 20s, were arrested and the children were taken into care.

Police allegedly found 109 £20 deals of heroin at the property along with 161 £20 deals of crack cocaine along with 53.77 grams of cannabis at the home.

The father was charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and one of possession with intent to supply cannabis, a Class B drug. He was also charged with one count of neglect.

The mother was charged with the same drugs offences plus three counts of neglect.

Both parents, who are now living outside the county, appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court this week where they pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Their cases were committed for trial to Maidstone Crown Court where they will appear for a preliminary hearing later this month.
