Chatham man arrested over 'sex attack' on girl in Tunbury Wood in Walderslade

A man who was arrested after a 16-year-old girl claimed she was sexually assaulted in woodland has been released on bail.

The schoolgirl said she was approached from behind by her attacker in Tunbury Wood, Walderslade, Chatham, on Tuesday.

She said she was targeted as she walked through the woods, off Tunbury Avenue, at about 12.30pm.

A 56-year-old man, from Chatham, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault the following day.

The arrest came after Kent Police released an efit of a suspect and appealed for witnesses.

The man has been bailed pending futher investigation, until August 22.

DC Claire Rumens said: "The area is popular with dog walkers and we have a couple of potential witnesses, and I'm really hopeful that anyone else who was in the area at the time can make contact and help us progress our investigation."
