A woman was impaled on a metal fence spike when she tripped on cobbles in Rochester High Street last night.

The 30-year-old had to be rescued by firefighters in an archway near the cathedral at about 9.15pm.

Crews cut off the 4in metal spike, which had gone through the woman’s bicep.

She was taken to hospital by South East Coast Ambulance Service with the length of metal still in her arm.

Fire crews, and officers from Kent Police, were at the scene until around 9.50pm.
